How do I clean up my duplicates on my list without losing tags?

I have imported my own webinar list to IS and I know many of these 700 peeps are on my list already with tags, how do i merge the same contacts without losing the original tags?

When you dup check merge, all tag assignments are merged collectively to the resulting contact.

So essentially I just select all on the list, then apply the action duplicate check merge?

Actually, the usual way is to goto Admin → Data Cleanup
