Contact tab and Group_id via API

What is the API call to create a tab in the contact view and to retrieve the Group_id?

The create custom field API endpoint has the ability to add a Group_id which represents the tab, but how do we find out what the tabs group_ids are?

Looks like the answer is Custom Fields is always group id “1”, then it’s sequential as more tabs are created
